This website is managed by HERDA-SW, the Higher Education Association in South West England. HERDA-SW aim to extend Higher Education’s contribution to sustainable regional development and competitiveness; and to influence and shape the social and economic agenda of the South West of England.
HERDA-SW promotes the activities of our members, and provide businesses with a simple and effective route into the expertise at the region’s Universities. Business Specialists within our Universities can then support the business’s needs.
This project is funded by the South West Regional Development Agency, as part of the Knowledge Exploitation South West programme.
HERDA-SW
HERDA-SW was formed by the Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in South West England in August 1999, and presently comprises 14 members. It has two principal aims:
- to extend higher education's contribution to sustainable regional development and competitiveness
- to influence and shape the social and economic agenda in the South West region by appropriate joint action
In achieving these aims HERDA-SW will:
- act as a focal point for effective liaison and co-operation between higher education institutions and key regional and sub-regional agencies
- encourage HEIs to be active participants in the development and, where appropriate, in the delivery of key regional strategies
- monitor the contribution that HEIs make to regional economic performance, benchmarking the contribution nationally and internationally and suggesting ways of optimising that contribution promote good practice in co-operation and helping to publicise the role of HEIs in this activity encourage the exploitation of the knowledge base of the region's HEIs
- encourage wider collaborative activity between the region's HEIs where this is considered to be beneficial both collectively and individually
- carry out such other activities as the Association considers to be in furtherance of the objectives set out above.

Structure
The Association has a permanent secretariat located in Exeter.
HERDA-SW has a Strategy Board, an Executive Committee and a number of Special Interest Groups.
